An abstract space with its own identity___
For « Interlaced Landscapes », the artist developed a creation process structured around the following steps.
Each canvas before being cut, represents a landscape or an abstract space with its own identity. This space is then fragmented and cut into strips of varying widths. Finally, the canvas is recomposed or reassembled by combining bands from one or several different works.
The painter unfolding his narrative___
During recomposition, the strips may be arranged vertically or horizontally, either following their initial order or in a random sequence, often guided by the painter as he unfolds his narrative.
The term « landscape » refers here to an abstract space that, much like a figurative landscape, incorporates notions such as gravity (orientation of the look), aesthetics of imbalance (arrangement, shape size, negative space) and kinetics (suggestion of movement).
As a complementary dimension, the intervals between the strips operate as moments of breathing, like silent measures in music, through which the viewer’s mind instinctively fills the « empty » by constructing a personal interpretation.
