«Luminotype», a new painting surface___

After working with cotton canvas, paper, and wood, Lancelot Blondeel turns to a new painting surface by choosing transparent canvas. This material choice, both technical and conceptual, opens a field of experimentation in which light, becoming an integral part of the work, enriches the dimensions traditionally explored in painting.

Vibrations of striking presence___

The transparent canvas allows light rays to circulate; they pass through areas of colour, reflect, and diffuse. This dynamic makes visible the many behaviours of light, whereas opaque surfaces — particularly darker tones — tend to close the surface and make it denser. The combination of this support with acrylic paint, whose translucent properties are fully used, generates vibrations of great presence. Ultramarine blue pigment, the keystone of the series, is thus revealed in all its strength and character.

A body language specific to the artist___

A certain tension emerges within the composition, while the gesture that unfolds across the works is marked by spontaneity, the overall balance remains deliberate, considered, and thought through. Impasto, splashes, the thickness of lines, the dialogue with the background, and colour choices are all studied and controlled. Conversely, the gestural act, an almost instantaneous physical emanation, arises from an unconscious bodily expression. Repeated over the years and refined through practice, this gesture becomes a form of bodily language specific to the artist.
