Curved lines and vivid colours___
Reversing the traditional approach in painting, which consists in adding material to create form, Lancelot Blondeel builds relief by concentrating paint at specific points on the canvas. This particular technique highlights the gestural dimension of the artist’s practice, which favours curved lines and vivid colours.
No Reason: a spontaneous movement traced in a matter of moments___
While the preparation of the canvas and the choice of tones are subject to a rigorous and deliberate selection process, the resulting form is born of a spontaneous movement traced within moments ; the near-instantaneity of the gesture standing in contrast to the permanence of the canvas.
The use of bichromy is integrated into a restrained composition. The successive washes enhance textural effects, creating an impression of depth. Finally, the relief is shaped to catch shadows and light thereby emphasising its three-dimensional quality.
